Locomotive 498.1, known as Albatros, is an important contribution to the history of Czechoslovak steam locomotives. Developed by Škoda Works in 1954, this locomotive was designed to increase performance and efficiency on key express lines. It used modern technology and was able to reach a record speed of 162 km/h, making it one of the fastest steam locomotives of its time. Albatross were deployed mainly on the Prague-Bratislava route and were gradually taken out of service after the electrification of the main lines.
