The Hawker Hurricane was a British fighter aircraft built from 1937 by Hawker Aircraft. It became famous during the Battle of Britain in 1940, where it formed the backbone of the RAF and claimed most enemy aircraft shot down. The Hurricane was robust, easy to repair and suitable even for less experienced pilots. More than 14,000 units were produced in various versions. Today it remains an icon of World War II.
